Turkey topped the European countries in selling the largest number of real estate during 2021, at about 1.5 million.
The data of the Turkish Statistics Authority stated that real estate sales in Turkey last year recorded the second highest peak ever, with one million and 492 thousand sales.
It pointed out that the record number of real estate sales in 2020 amounted to 499,316 homes.
Istanbul topped the Turkish cities in selling the largest number of homes with 276 thousand and 223, accounting for 18.5 percent of the total sales in the country.
In a statement to Anadolu Agency, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of "Foul" Real Estate Company, Mehmet Iqbal, said that Turkey topped the European countries in real estate sales.
He added, "Turkey topped Europe in real estate sales by selling about 1.5 million housing units, and the closest European country to sell 1.3 million housing units is Britain."
Foreigners buy 68,600 properties in Turkey last year 2021
The Turkish General Directorate of Land Registry and Land Survey said that foreigners bought 68,600 properties last year.
In a statement to Anadolu Agency, Director of Land Registry and Real Estate Survey, Muhammad Zaki Adli, said that real estate sales to foreigners have increased significantly since 2018.
He pointed out that Turkey is a safe port for citizens of Arab countries and the Middle East, noting that the citizens of these countries act out of the logic of "we resort to Turkey as a safe haven in case we encounter trouble in our country."
He explained that last year, 68,600 properties were sold to foreigners, including 64,500 homes (houses), and about 4,000 plots of land, with an estimated value of 40 billion Turkish liras (the dollar is about 13.52 liras).
He pointed out that the citizens of Iraq and Iran came at the forefront of the most foreign purchases of real estate in Turkey last year, followed by citizens of Russia, Britain, Germany and Afghanistan.
He added that the cities of Istanbul, Antalya, Ankara and Mugla are at the forefront of the Turkish cities that sell real estate to foreigners.
Turkey will sell most of the housing in Esenyurt and Çankaya during 2021
Turkey sold most of the housing in Turkey in Esenyurt with 37,102 units, and Çankaya with 26,229 units.
According to the data of the Statistics Institute, the total number of homes sold last year in 166 regions with a population of more than 150 thousand million and 127 thousand and 875 houses.
The area where most of the houses changed hands was Esenyurt, which ranks first in terms of population, where apartments can be found to suit almost every budget.
While the number of homes sold across the country decreased by 0.5 percent compared to the previous year, it rose by 2.4 percent to 37,102 in Esenyurt.
Çankaya came in second with 26,229 units, Kechi Oren with 23,170 units, Bursa Nilufer with 19,475 units, and Ankara Mamak with 18,358 units.
Pendik, Antalya Muratpasa, Umraniye, Kadikoy, and Eskişehir Tepebaşı were among the top 20 most selling districts.
